Gavin is a California Surfer in the making! We took a stroll down to Zushi Beach with our new BOB jogging stroller on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We wanted to hit the beach in Japan during the summer months because they transform into a smorgasbord of things to buy.
You can purchase blow-up rafts in almost every shape and character imaginable. If you're hungry you won't starve. There are several 'restaurants' on the beach. Tired? Dirty? Are you ready to party? No problem, there are beds and showers for rent. Plus you can shake your bon bon at the dance clubs there. The fun never ends.
Gavin was a local celebrity for an hour as we made our way up and down the beach. The Japanese are suckers for a blue-eyed Cali boy! He was passed around to each squealing girl that wanted to hold him. Lock up your daughters!

Kamakura lantern Festival
Kamakura is a famous city in Japan that’s known for it’s large Buddha (Kamakura Dabutsu) and elaborate temples. This place is a huge tourist spot for people all over Japan and the world. We are lucky to live one train stop away from this place.
Since we are so close to Kamakura, one evening we decided to eat dinner there and stop by the local Lantern Festival. Kamakura’s largest temple was decorated with dozens of lanterns that had been painted by local artisans. It was a beautiful site!
-Lantern with Fall scene of Kamakura (etched and painted).

Fall Down, Go Boom
Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!
Did I tell you that I'm a master diver? Is it off the diving board at the local pool? No way. Who wants to take the trouble of getting suited up and lotioned, walk down to the pool, and fight the crowds of kids that are there. All you have to do is dive off your own swing in the living room! It's just as fun, I swear. Plus it scares mommy. Even better!
Diving Sushi.Food Glorious Food
Will whine for food! Okay, so all the signs have been shown. According to the four baby books I have been reading I should see the following when Gavin is ready to eat:
-Looks interested in what you’re eating
-Reaches for the food on your plate
-Wants to be fed when you are eating…
-They forgot to add, tries to eat his own hand off when no food is given.
So I was trying to wait until Gavin was 6 months to feed him solid food. Waiting until then is supposed to have great benefits for the child, one of them is cutting down on childhood obesity. Hold out for childhood obesity? Really? Gavin is not a small baby. I might as well throw in the towel and hand him a doughnut. I’m kidding of course. I know he’s big now but I’ve already decided that he’s going to participate in the 2028 Olympics. Better start getting in shape now, protein shakes here we come.
Our first attempt at solid food was not the best. Poor Gavin was strapped down in his new highchair by a daddy that has been waiting to use it since Gavin was 4 months in the womb. Needless to say, he was confused and a little bit scared. I’m sure the only thing on his mind was “get me out of here”! He took a couple of bites of rice cereal. Yeah! He ate about a teaspoon. Victory?

FYI: His 2nd and 3rd feedings went well. Here’s the proof…
